Jetstar will start flying from Melbourne to Busselton (BQB) in the Margaret River region from March 25, 2020.
The airline announced the service today, Friday, October 4, 2019. The three times a week return service will be operated using one of Jetstar’s A320s.
Busselton (pop. 15,400) is 200 kilometres south of Perth on Australia’s south west tip and is one of the gateways to the well known Margaret River region.
Various regular passenger transport air services between Perth and Busselton have been tried over the years, including flights by Skywest and Virgin Australia. The last scheduled passenger service was in 2015.
Jetstar are trying something new, flying in direct from Melbourne. They are boasting it will be the only regular service from Australia’s east coast into the Margaret River region. In fact, it will be the only regular passenger transport air service from anywhere into the Margaret River region.
It’s crazy brave but it might just work. The schedule allows for weekends in the Margaret River for Melbournians and weekends in Melbourne for Margaret River locals. There may also be some incentives from the local council and the West Australian Government.
Jetstar is currently advertising fares from under $100. Tempting.
The proposed Melbourne-Busselton-Melbourne schedule effective March 25, 2020 is:
|Dep Melbourne (MEL)||JQ900||Mo, We, Sat||08:00|
|Arr Busselton (BQB)||09:05|
|Dep Busselton (BQB)||JQ901||Mo, We, Sa||09:40|
|Arr Melbourne (MEL)||16:10|
Jetstar notes that once eastern daylight saving finishes, arrival and departure times at Busselton will be 10:05 and 10:40 respectively.
