Qantas has made a bit of a splash lately with its points planes to Narita and Los Angeles. Now its low cost subsidiary Jetstar is getting in on the act with a whole month of points plane flights to Japan.
Every available seat on flight from both the Gold Coast and Cairns to Japan (and onward across Jetstar Japan’s network) for flights taken between November 12, 2019, and December 12, 2019, is available for sale using Qantas points.
Seats are available for sale until midnight September 16, 2019, unless sold out.
Unlike the Qantas points planes, these flights are available on either a one way or return basis.
According to an example provided by Qantas, it will cost 26,000 points (plus $161 cash) to fly one way between Melbourne and Narita via Cairns. Return costs are double. Internal transfers on Jetstar Japan start from 6,400 points (plus ￥1372 cash).
Flying direct from the Gold Coast to Narita will cost just 21,500 points (plus $132 cash).
These fares are booked via the Qantas website rather than the Jetstar website. Jetstar fares booked via Qantas include checked in luggage. But it doesn’t include much else – you’ll pay extra for seat selection, food and beverage.
While 34F on Jetstar isn’t a patch on business class on a Qantas jet, these points fares are a bit too cheap to resist (it’s only a nine or ten hour flight!) and a series of dummy bookings made this morning suggests availability is still wide open.
It makes a few days skiing in Japan look viable.
