Low cost carrier AirAsia is rolling out its ‘Red Carpet Service’ at Brisbane Airport. The service, available for a fee, offers departing AirAsia passengers a terminal experience comparable to that of business class passengers on full service airlines.
The service includes a priority check in zone, lounge access, priority boarding, and priority baggage delivery in Bangkok.
The cost is AUD$75.00 per person or AUD$85.00 is paying at the airport.
The lounge used is the Plaza Premium Lounge near Gate 81 at Brisbane International. The fee includes three hours of access (two kids under two years of age can accompany each adult in for free). Normal lounge access costs about AUD$60 so you are paying AUD$10 more for priority baggage and a less painful check in process at the airport.
The Plaza Premium Lounge at Brisbane is well enough regarded. It offers decent food (including dishes on demand), alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks, showers, wifi and plenty of space to relax. The lounge does get crowded around breakfast time but as Air Asia’s Brisbane departure is at 12.50pm, the crowds should be avoided.
Team the Red Carpet Service up with a premium class seat on AirAsia and you have a reasonably tolerable travel experience on a low cost carrier.
